What I’m Currently Reading

Currently Reading: The Unwedding by Ally Condie

I stumbled on The Unwedding while scrolling through Reese Witherspoon’s book club, because yes, I’m absolutely the kind of person who judges a book by its cover and a celebrity book club pick. Something about the title caught my attention right away…The Unwedding. And I was instantly curious. Why “un”? What happened? And why is it giving mystery at a destination wedding vibes?

I added it to my cart in less than two minutes.

Once I was a few chapters in, I shared it with all of my girlfriends to tell them… this one’s worth curling up with!

this is perfect for when you’re craving an escape

You know those stories that feel like a breath of fresh air, even when things are kind of tense and twisty? The Unwedding is that. It’s set in a beautiful coastal location, centered around what should be a picture-perfect destination wedding. But…you guessed it, something goes wrong. Not in an over-the-top, cheesy thriller way, but in that simmering tension kind of way.

It’s quiet. Thoughtful. And a little eerie in the best way.

The author, Ally Condie, is actually best known for her YA dystopian novels, but this adult fiction debut? It feels layered and mature without being stuffy. She has a way of making you feel like you’re standing right there in the sand with the characters, watching things unfold.

I was instantly addicted

Every night after I got my toddler down, I’d make a little moment out of reading this one. Low lamp, fuzzy socks, cup of my favorite tea. It’s not a race-to-the-end page-turner, but a slow, suspenseful walk into a beautifully tangled story about grief, reinvention, and how the past always seems to find us again.

Who It’s For:
-If you like books with quiet intensity
-If you’re into emotionally complex main characters
-If you loved things like Big Little Lies, The Last Thing He Told Me, or Little Fires Everywhere
-If you’re craving a little escape to a seaside town, without the cliché

This one’s not a thriller, not quite a drama, and not really a romance either. It lives in the in-between. And that’s what made me love it.

why I think you’ll love it too

What I loved most about The Unwedding is how human it felt. The characters feel flawed and honest. The setting isn’t just background…it’s part of the story. There are no cheap plot twists or predictable tropes. Instead, you get a story that breathes, with subtle suspense and just the right amount of emotional pull.

And when the title finally starts to mean something, you’ll get chills!
