Skincare For Moms
Let’s be honest, when you become a mom, your skincare routine can quickly go from “10 steps with serums” to “I washed my face with baby wipes… again.” And that’s okay. Motherhood shifts everything, especially how we take care of ourselves. But even in the chaos of diaper changes, school lunches, and late-night wakeups, I’ve found that creating a simple, nourishing skincare routine can feel like a little anchor in the day.
This isn’t about perfection or glass skin or spending 45 minutes in the bathroom with a toddler banging on the door. It’s about taking a few moments to care for yourself because you deserve it.

Whether you’re in your postpartum era or deep in the carpool life, here’s a realistic skincare routine that actually works for busy moms. Plus tips to make your products work harder and smarter.
Not sure about what products to reach for? I’ll spell it all out for you below based on your skin type!
Step 1: A Gentle Cleanser
A good cleanser should leave your skin feeling clean but not tight or stripped. You don’t need anything harsh, just something that removes the day (and probably a bit of your kid’s snack).
If you have dry skin: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
Super gentle, non-stripping, and creamy. This is a dry skin staple for a reason.
Combination skin: La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser
Balances skin without over-drying, and keeps oiliness in check.
Oily skin: Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser
Clarifying but not harsh. It balances oils with a green juice vibe.
Keep it in the shower and do a quick cleanse while the conditioner sits in your hair. Multitasking at its finest.
Step 2: A Toner
This is the step that makes your routine feel like a spa moment. A facial mist can instantly refresh your skin and make your skincare absorb better.
I am loving this one right now. It feels so good!
Keep one in the fridge and spritz midday when you need a boost. It’s like an iced coffee… but for your face.
Step 3: A Serum
This is where you personalize your routine. Whether you’re dealing with dullness, dryness, dark spots, or fine lines (hello, tired eyes), there’s a serum for that.
For the dry skin girlies: The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid + B5
A budget-friendly hydration booster that layers beautifully and helps lock in moisture.
If you have combo skin: Naturium Niacinamide Serum 12% + Zinc
This helps with texture and keeps breakouts at bay, while calming inflammation.
Or oily skin: Good Genes All-In-One AHA Lactic Acid Treatment
Feather-light, perfect for combo skin. Feels like a cloud on your face.
Try: A vitamin C serum in the morning to brighten, and a hyaluronic acid serum at night for hydration.
Apply serum to slightly damp skin so it sinks in better. One pump is usually all you need
Step 4: A Moisturizer (non-negotiable)
Lock it all in with a moisturizer that suits your skin type. You don’t need something fancy, just something that works.
Dry: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
Thick, rich, and soothing. A winter skin savior — but not too heavy for daily use.
Combo: Laneige Cream Skin Refillable Toner & Moisturizer with Ceramides and Peptides
Feels so good on your face
Oily: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel
A classic for oily skin — hydrating but oil-free and fast-absorbing.
Step 5: SPF (even when you’re indoors all day)
I know, I know. You’ve heard it a million times. But sunscreen is the real MVP. If you do one thing in the morning, let it be SPF.
For dry skin: EltaMD UV Daily Tinted Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Hydrating and protective, with just a bit of a dewy tint that gives “no-makeup” glow.
Combination skin: Supergoop! Glowscreen SPF 40 Glowy, sheer, and wearable daily — gives that “awake and rested” vibe even when you’re not.
Oily skin: La Roche-Posay Anthelios Clear Skin SPF 60 Matte finish, non-comedogenic — truly perfect for oily or acne-prone skin.
Try: A mineral sunscreen with a slight tint so you can skip foundation. This one is the goat
Mom tip: Keep it near your toothbrush so you don’t forget to apply it. Bonus points if you find one that doubles as a moisturizer.
The Mom Nightly Reset
If mornings are chaos, let your evenings be calm. Even if it’s just 5 minutes.
Cleanse
Serum (or skip it, it’s okay)
Moisturizer
Lip balm (treat yourself)
This can be your moment to exhale. You did a lot today, even if it doesn’t feel like it. A simple wind-down routine can help signal to your brain that it’s time to rest, even if your kid has other plans.
Pregnancy and Postpartum Skincare
Hormones do wild things to your skin. You might be dry, sensitive, breaking out, or all of the above. Be gentle with yourself. And when in doubt, simplify your routine and use pregnancy-safe products.
Some safe staples to look for:
Fragrance-free moisturizers Gentle AHAs like lactic acid (skip retinol unless approved) Nourishing oils (like rosehip or squalane)
Some of my pregnancy and postpartum favorites:
Your skin might be more sensitive during this season — and there are ingredients to avoid. These are gentle, effective, and pregnancy/postpartum-safe (always check with your provider, just in case!).
Cleanser: Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser No fragrance, no nonsense — just clean, soft skin.
Serum: Cocokind Vitamin C Serum This gentle formula brightens without harsh ingredients.
Moisturizer: Honest Beauty Hydrogel Cream Safe, affordable, and feels high-end — extra points for clean ingredients.
Oil: Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil Luxe-feeling, super hydrating, and great for postpartum glow-ups.
SPF: Babo Botanicals Sheer Zinc Sunscreen Great for sensitive skin and babies too (if you end up sharing).
Quick Tips For Busy Moms
-Keep your skincare in one place. A small basket by your sink makes it easy to grab and go.
-Use your products intentionally. Massage your cleanser in. Breathe deeply when you mist. Small rituals matter.
-Be consistent over perfect. Even if you only manage cleanser and moisturizer—great. That’s more than nothing.
-Hydrate your skin from the inside too. (Yes, I’m talking about water… or at least one less iced coffee.)
A Personal Note:
Skincare shouldn’t feel like another expectation you have to meet. It should feel like kindness. Like a pause. Like something that reminds you that you matter too.
So whether you follow every step or just splash water on your face and call it a day, you’re doing just fine.
