Minimalist Living with Personality: How to Embrace ‘Less, But Better’
Okay, real talk: minimalist living used to sound like a cold white box of a life. Like, were we supposed to throw away our pink pens and only wear oatmeal-colored linen from now on?? Hard pass.
But there’s a new version of minimalism making waves and it’s not about depriving yourself or ditching everything you love. It’s called “Less, But Better” and honestly? I’m here for it.
This kind of minimalism still says “clean counters” and “edited wardrobe,” but it also says personality, sparkle, and joy. It’s about intentionality, not austerity. It’s about having fewer things, but only things you absolutely love.
Let’s get into it.

What Even Is Minimalism with Personality?
Minimalism with personality is like cleaning your room and realizing it feels peaceful, not empty. It’s the difference between:
A beige house with nothing in it
A cozy home with clean lines, fun curtains, thrifted books, a vintage candle, and your fave mug collection
This is for the girlies who love aesthetics, but are also tired of clutter and decision fatigue. It’s for the ones who want to live slower, softer, and better…without sacrificing their inner sparkle.
Step One: Redefine What “Enough” Looks Like
Minimalism doesn’t mean you can’t own 15 coffee mugs (guilty), it means you don’t need the 8 you never use.
Ask yourself:
Do I use this?
Do I love this?
Does this reflect who I am now?
Be ruthless.
You’re allowed to keep things that are silly, pretty, or nostalgic as long as they mean something to you.
Step Two: Curate, Don’t Cut
Let’s stop thinking of minimalist living as removal and start thinking of it as refinement.
Curating your life like a Pinterest board means:
-Choosing fewer clothes, but only ones that make you feel good
-Styling your bookshelf with intention (yes to color-coded spines and that fake plant you love)
-Picking one signature scent instead of 11 body sprays from 2011
You’re the editor-in-chief of your space, your closet, your everything. Make it a vibe.
Step Three: Create Rituals, Not Routines
Minimalist living isn’t about productivity hacks. It’s about making your life feel luxe and lovely with less.
Try this:
-Instead of rushing your skincare, light a candle and make it a moment
-Instead of five makeup bags, have one go-to drawer of items you actually use
-Instead of hoarding 80 lotions, keep your four faves and use them with purpose
When everything you own has meaning, everyday life starts to feel like a mini spa day.
Step Four: Let Your Style Shine
Here’s the thing… “minimalist living” doesn’t mean “boring.” You can totally have:
-A pink velvet couch
-A cute lamp shaped like your grandma
-A perfectly styled bookshelf
-A 00s pop playlist going while you vacuum
Minimalism with personality says: Yes, I love clean countertops. But also yes, I have a yellow toaster and it brings me joy.
Choose a color palette or theme that feels so you, then build around it. Don’t strip your life of character! Refine the character.
Step Five: Romanticize Organization
Aesthetic minimalism is 50% mindset and 50% matching bins.
Seriously, don’t just declutter… organize in a way that feels beautiful. Label your baskets. Use soft pastels. Make your junk drawer…not junky.
And remember: the less stuff you own, the easier it is to keep your life feeling together.
Here are some of my favorite organizers from Amazon:
Don’t Copy, Curate
This is your vibe. Not Pinterest’s. Not your fave influencer’s. Not even Marie Kondo’s.
Keep what feels right for you. Maybe you’re a neutral queen with a splash of lavender. Or a vintage-core maximalist who just wants a little less chaos.
Minimalist living with personality means:
-Saying “no thanks” to things that don’t align
-Saying “yes please” to what makes your soul spark
-Being picky with your energy, your wardrobe, your bookshelf, your friendships
It’s less about rules and more about rhythm.
Less, But Make It You
Minimalism with personality is about designing a life that feels like a deep breath, but without letting go of what makes you you.
It’s about slowing down, clearing out, and filling your space with the things that light you up. The pink journal. The thrifted lamp. The Sunday playlist. The mini croissant earrings you forgot you even had.
So no, you don’t need to throw out your glitter pens!
Just be intentional about which ones you keep.
